Join us for our monthly Book Club! Read, listen, download, then discuss your thoughts among your peers. This month we will be discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. This title is also available for download from Libby as an eAudiobook. Call 727-893-1074 for additional information.
"After Tova Sullivan's husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she's been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn't dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors--until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova. Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova's son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it's too late."

SAGES Theater Brings "Grandma Rocks" to the Catherine A. Hickman Theater
SAGES Theater invites the community to enjoy an afternoon of laughter, heartwarming storytelling, and meaningful conversation during a special performance of Grandma Rocks on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Catherine A. Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Avenue South, Gulfport.
Grandma Rocks is a heartwarming comedy that asks a timeless question: Is it ever too late for a second chance at love? When a widow who has settled comfortably into life with her daughter unexpectedly reconnects with the sweetheart she hasn't seen in 50 years, cherished memories and unexpected possibilities begin to reshape the future she thought was already written.
Filled with humor, warmth, and relatable family moments, the play explores themes of widowhood, Golden Age relationships, second chances, and the importance of planning the legacy we leave for those we love. Through its engaging story, Grandma Rocks reminds audiences that life's next chapter can still hold new beginnings and that it's never too late to embrace joy.
Admission is free and open to the public, but reservations are required to guarantee seating. The family-friendly production is handicap accessible and runs approximately 60 minutes, followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session with Community Partners.
Guests with reservations are invited to arrive when doors open at 1 p.m. to visit community resource tables, enter prize drawings, and receive complimentary goody bags. Before the performance, the SAGES Singers will lead a fun sing-along beginning at 1:30 p.m. Walk-in guests will be seated in any remaining available seats at 1:45 p.m.
SAGES Theater's "Plays with Purpose" combine entertainment with education, using theater to spark conversations about topics that affect older adults, caregivers, and families while encouraging audiences to connect with local community resources.
Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made in advance to ensure seating.
For reservations and additional information, contact SAGES Theater at playswithpurpose@sagestheater.org or (727) 202-2302.

The Gulfport Arts Center invites visual artists of all ages to submit work for a group exhibition at our studio centered around the theme of “time.” Chronos is the ancient Greek personification of time, and is the root of words like chronology or chronicle. We encourage interested artists to consider this theme and submit up to three original works of any medium that creatively portray the passage of time as well as the relationship between past, present, and future. Think physical records of time, such as clocks, calendars, photos, and time capsules, or even conceptual ideas like change, growth, and tradition.
Submission is FREE and open to local artists of ALL AGES!
There is no limit to the amount of works that may be submitted per artist, but all entries may not be accepted into the show. All ages, skill levels, and perspectives are encouraged to submit their work for consideration.
If you would like to submit a piece of artwork to be considered for the show, please email a photo to ArtsCenter@mygulfport.us. Submission must be received by 10/6 for consideration in the show.
Art work will be on display at the Gulfport Arts Center from 10/30/26 - 12/5/26. Please visit the Arts Center during Open Studio Hours to see the show. Tuesdays, 3:00 - 7:00, Wednesdays, 3:00 - 7:00, and the first and third Saturday, 10:00 - 2:00.

Improv Sandwich: Aliens at the Hickman Brings Unscripted Comedy to Gulfport
The Catherine A. Hickman Theater is going out of this world on Friday, October 30, when Improv Sandwich presents Aliens at the Hickman, a 90-minute live improv comedy show featuring Star Trek actress Laura Banks and a troupe of seasoned improv performers. The show runs from 6–8 p.m.
Set inside a retro 1950s diner, the show combines Halloween fun, alien encounters and spontaneous comedy as performers create scenes, characters and storylines inspired by audience suggestions. No two performances are alike, and every twist and turn is created live on stage.
Part retro sci-fi adventure and part Halloween night out, Aliens at the Hickman invites audiences to step into an unpredictable diner where the guests are anything but ordinary. Audience participation helps shape the performance, making each show a unique experience.
General Admission and VIP Experiences are available. Early Bird pricing is available through September 30.

Sure, everyone's heard of the ghost at the Peninsula Inn, but what about other hauntings in Gulfport? Join one of our spirits as they lead you on a ghostly tour through Gulfport's history. This tour was created by Deborah Frethem, who wrote the book — literally — on haunted Gulfport. Your ticket price benefits Gulfport Arts & Heritage, the nonprofit that supports the Gulfport History Museum, the Gulfport Arts Center, offers porch parties, promotes local artists, and can help research your home's history. Thanks for supporting local history, arts, and preservation efforts!
The tour is free for Gulfport Arts & Heritage members. Memberships start at $40 ($25 for students) and help fund programs like this one. Please join today!
IMPORTANT: This tour meets in front of the Gulfport Casino (5500 Shore Boulevard) and lasts approximately 90 minutes.
These tours sell out, so advance ticket purchase is highly suggested. Members should pre-register to ensure they have a spot. We don't love turning people away, but when the group gets too large it's hard for everyone to hear our tour guides.
Please note: If you enjoy the tour, please consider tipping the tour guide, lest he come back and haunt you!
